Student engagement Coordinator

The Organization

Carleton PIRG  is a student funded and directed organization with a mandate to support research, education and action on environmental and social justice issues. Carleton PIRG endeavours to foster a non-hierarchical working environment by following consensus decision-making processes. Carleton PIRG strives to be an anti-oppressive working environment. The Student Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with other staff and the boards of directors to ensure the goals of the organization are met.


The Position

Student Engagement Coordinators will work collaboratively with other staff to build student engagement through supporting outreach, organizing and informing student and community members of the services available to them. This role will take on comprehensive engagement and list building.

Responsibilities:



Student Engagement is integral to Carleton PIRG’s ability to meet its mandate and is closely connected to programming and volunteer activity, which are staples of CPIRG’s work. The Coordinators will work collaboratively with staff  to ensure that the administrative and programming functions and objectives of the organization are met among other duties. We are currently looking for graduate students or individuals with exceptional outreach to graduate students, and will be opening recruitment for undergraduate outreach later in the year.

Responsibilities: 

Outreach:

  • Network and collaborate with campus and community groups on common issues.

  • Respond to the needs of volunteers, members and other visitors to the office.

  • Participate in community initiatives and activities that fall under OPIRG’s mandate and provide support and collaborate on community-based social justice initiatives to continue to foster a relationship between Carleton PIRG members, volunteers and the Ottawa activist community.

Working Groups and Volunteers:

  • Volunteer Coordination: recruitment, orientation, placement, training, supervision, etc.

  • Maintain volunteer database, and update volunteer descriptions and recruitment according to the needs of the organization

  • Support, evaluation, and appreciation of volunteers/working groups.

  • Collaborate with other staff in relation to promoting working groups and volunteers in print and on social media

General Duties:

  • Submit timely documentation of work completed via staff reports;

  • Communicate with the employer on regular basis and attend meetings when required;

  • Participate with other staff and volunteers in the maintenance of regular office hours, cleaning, maintenance, and improvements;

  • Participate in general communications (mail, phone, fax, email) and organisational networking as required and/or appropriate;

  • Participate in regular staff meetings, performance reviews, and work plan development;

  • Acquire training for professional development as appropriate and/or required. 

  • Support and assist staff and Board of Directors in fundraising/programming/coalitions as appropriate and/or required (e.g. Speaking Tours, Demonstrations, Radical Frosh activities, etc.);

  • Participate in programming to meet organizational anti-oppression/anti-racism goals as required and/or appropriate;

  • Attend board and staff meetings, relevant working group and committee meetings;

  • Assist in policy and planning as required and appropriate;

  • Use consensus process and practice anti-oppressive policies.

  • Other duties as assigned
